911 Attack

911-terrorist-attackThis blog and the THMSBlog.com both cam under DOS cyber attack on September 11, 2014. This is not the first time. I have written about it twice before; Terror In The Neighborhood and recently Lord of the Castle. This site has survived but the IXWebhosting has shut down my THMSBlog. DOS is denial of service created by hitting an IP address tens to hundreds of thousands of times in rapid sequence. This overloads the system. This blog was spared by IXWebhosting from shutdown.

Since I am on a shared service server, this DOS action also blocks access to all the other websites that share the machine that I am on. The quick fix is to shut down the website under attack. This is what IXwebhosting has done. THMSBlog has been down by IXWebhosting for over 24 hours because of the DOS attack.

Of course I get the blame but I am actually the victim here. IXwebhosting wants me to move to a much more expensive unshared service like a VPM or CLOUD server. That fixes their problem but not mine. I am not causing the problem, cyber thugs are. I am just their target. It’s like saying the trade center was the problem because it was there.

I have talked with a technician at IXWebhosting as I have traced the source of the attack to a single IP in a Google CLOUD server. The owner of that IP has of course blocked whois identity. I have blocked that IP. Unfortunately the cyber thugs are either hacker kiddies or professionals terrorists. I can’t block them all and the pros have support from terrorist nations.

IXWebhosting admits in their own status blog that their system has been under severe DOS cyber attack. These are not my server addresses. Apparently IXWebhosting doesn’t tell all.

I believe this is what lies ahead. I have to decide who will win this war. Is it worth the effort…
