That’s All I Can Stands…

… I can’t stands no more!

Popeye-the-Sailor-520x693Well, sometimes I have to take a step back. I have been playing with the new WIN10 for over six months. Most of that time was with a pre release version with no guarantee of satisfaction. I received the upgrade to the full release version back on July 20th or so. I was anticipating that my irritations with WIN10 Trial version would be resolved with the go-to-market release.

Unfortunately, such is not the case. Microsoft is still tying to find its footing with WIN10. For older hardware such as I use, WIN10 is not ready for prime time. I can’t prove it but it seems to me that all the development is designed for the new hardware and the social media functions. That is where the money is today. I am sure it is a serious burden to accommodate hardware that is greater than 5 years old. Probably over 3 years old.

The last secret WIN10 update (which occur almost daily) wiped out my graphic drivers for my 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor. I was left with butt-ugly lower resolutions generic resolutions that are totally unsatisfactory. WIN10 does its ultimate effort to prevent skilled users like myself to do our own configurations. It is built for the masses.

Technology changes so fast it is best today to NOT UPGRADE to a newer OS on old hardware. My iPhone 4S can not run more than a day in idle with it’s latest OS. I changed the battery and it made no difference. (Just another example of building in obsolescence.)

So Sandbox (this computer) is back on Ubuntu 15.04 and it is very happy with the graphics. I’ll miss a few windows features I liked on WIN10 but not for very long. I have become nervous with the constant WIN10 tweaking that brings grief to my computing experience. Ubuntu hasn’t (yet) forgotten the savvied users and our use of older hardware.
