Filters

My furnace, actually an electric heat pump, wasn’t keeping up to holding temperature too well. Checked filter. Oops… went a bit too long. Reminder to others, check your filter now. Very dirty filters will definitely reduce system efficiency (higher operating cost) and could damage equipment. Don’t put it off. Also don’t run without filters if you have a heat pump or air conditioning in your system. A few days won’t hurt but all season could plug indoor coil fins.

After 50 years in the HVAC business, I have changed and installed a lot of filters. Even electrostatic filters usually have an after filter that can get clogged […] Continue reading » Filters

Magic of RSS

I may not have explained this. The column on the right of this page is titled “More Posts”. Located here are four other blog/websites where I express my thoughts and describe what I am doing. Ramblin’ Dan may look like it isn’t being attended but that lack of action usually indicates I am off publishing in these other areas.

Actually there are several more blog/websites I maintain that are not on this short list.

I only list the last five articles from each site I have posted here. The top item in each list is the most recent article for that site. These are RSS (Really Simple Syndication) […] Continue reading » Magic of RSS

Bad Science

I used to enjoy learning new things by watching “educational” programs on the TV. Channel 13 was my all time favorite. With the advent of cable “pay TV” a lot more of this type of educational material became accessible. Many production companies became dedicated to producing real science and engineering learning programs. I was in intellectual heaven.

However, I have become quite peeved. The entertainment factor has overcome good science. The History Channel is the biggest sell out. Huge amounts of cable time are now filled with the bad science “proof” of monsters, ghosts, UFO’s, Outer Space Aliens, crop circles, paranormal activity, government secrets and cover ups, ad nauseam. […] Continue reading » Bad Science

Facebook

I started off into a strange new world. It is called Facebook. I stayed away as long as I could but I was finally drawn into the black hole. It can consume everything including the light of day. It is an extreme obsession with many of its users. I can feel the temptation.

It is nice to chat with old friends from my youth. I enjoy that part. They usually don’t come a calling here in Ramblin’ Dan, so Facebook is a good thing. Facebook is totally designed around the “friends” concept. I like that I can turn off all the silly stuff and time wasters that seem to be […] Continue reading » Facebook
