Raspberry Pi Printer

Raspberry Pi Printer

I was telling myself I had a pretty good mini PC (computer) in the form of a Raspberry Pi (RPi). It was capable of doing everything I thought a small computer should do. But then, it hit me. Not the computer but a realization.

There was no way for me to send any of my documents from the RPi to a printer. There is no printer set-up in a stock Raspberry Pi. Nothing in the configuration and nothing in the user menu. Well That’s Fine (WTF).

So, I do some web searching to see what others (other folk) are doing. Not too well it seems. Some Noob […] Continue reading » Raspberry Pi Printer

Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Raspberry Pi 3B+

I’m playing with one of the smallest and most popular PC like computers on the planet. It’s called the Raspberry Pi (RPi). Now available in many editions and and special application configurations.

Why? Just because I can. It’s a very intriguing bit of hardware.

It’s a bare bone credit card size circuit board. It’s primary operating system (OS) is Linux, which I love and understand. It can also be enabled to run on several other OS software. Google “raspberry pi” if you want the complete description of the hardware. No need to explain here.

The best part is the […] Continue reading » Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Foot Shot

Big bang theory

Windows10 slipped in a new malware feature.

I discovered I couldn’t save documents or any output from my applications to my desktop. I was trying to do “save as…” within the application to put say… an Aspire G-Code file on my desktop. The “save as” would “act” like a “search command” and report to me that the document name couldn’t be found.

A totally ambiguous response.

Six months ago, Windows10 added a new “protection” to save users from “Ransomeware.” It blocks “save” access to all what it considers “critical” Windows directories including the desktop, where some evil-doer may place a Ransomeware file. Evil-doers […] Continue reading » Foot Shot

POBOX Has Gone Berserk

I have been using an email service called pobox.com for four years. It is a purchased service that I began to use to provide a “collection point” for the dozens of email accounts I use with my many websites. It also provided a great email filtering service.

I use a process where I direct all my accounts to their one email address that I use to send (SMTP) and read all the mail from all the accounts at one location.

They use various commercial filtering services which I have noticed add a HUGE amount of header information to all emails. There is a whole […] Continue reading » POBOX Has Gone Berserk

Just “Ironsides” Now

Yipes! What a mess…

I am not going to get all computer nerd technical here. I want to say I just finished that upgrade to my oldest office computer I call “Ironsides”. It was named “Old Ironsides” before I did the upgrade.

Almost all new computers are using solid state drives (SSD). All our cell phones and hand-held tablets all use a form of solid-state drive. They have no moving parts and are very dependable. Price has come way down, and sizes (capacity) has increased. Multi-Terabyte drives are available today.

That’s as technical as I will get.

I bought a new 500 GB drive I installed as […] Continue reading » Just “Ironsides” Now
