I need a flat building board upon which to construct the hull of this model boat. I have used a flat hollow core door to build model airplanes and wings very flat for many years. I think I left it in Ohio from the last move like 15 years ago. So now I have need for one again. Gee, I should have kept it right?<\/p>\n<p>What I would like is actually have a bifold door at least 30 inches wide (two 15 inch panels). They are all close to 80 inches long but I will cut it down. (Yes the length can be shortened, I have done it before.) I need at least or only about 60 inches. I don\u2019t care about the condition of one end (like water damage) other than it is flat.<\/p>\n<p>What I really need is a single core (1 panel &#8211; 15 inches wide) for a bifold door. They are sold singularly by some specialty lumber yards but I don\u2019t know of any around Dallas. The big box stores sell the complete door.<\/p>\n<p>I can get a single 24 inch wide door new for about $19 at Lowes or Home Depot.\u00a0 That\u2019s about 10 inches wider than I need but will get the job done. However, anything wider would be too difficult to manage for the project. This size door it what some people buy for a desk top between two filing cabinets.<\/p>\n<p>What makes the door good for my needs is the hollow core makes a very inexpensive, lightweight but rigid \u201ctorsion box\u201d that will stay flat forever if it doesn\u2019t get wet.
