The plugin is published by some blokes in New Zeland.

I was extremely pleased at how the new layout looked and spent considerable time in loading all the products into the web site. I spent some cash for the Gold update package. There were some quirks in getting the software set up properly and working with PayPal and the USPS postal website that does the shipping cost estimates.

I thought I had the kinks ironed out and switched the web site to full time operation and wrote the previous blog entry here in Ramblin’ Dan.

Then a customer sent me a message that he couldn’t complete an order. Sure enough it was acting up for me too. The more I worked on the problem the worse it got. It finally got so bad I could not process even a cash sale for myself.

I tried five different themes from WP own Twenty ten through Twenty Fourteen, just to make sure it wasn’t a theme problem. The themes looked great but the store would still not perform a checkout. It’s a shame as I really liked the built in blog from using WordPress.

I also re-did everything in my PayPal site and requested a new log in to the USPS site (that took three days to clear) and still nothing got corrected. I began reading the code for the WP e-commerce plugin, especially the USPS interface and the comments in the code revealed how discombobulated the coding was. That’s where I decided to pull the plug.

Yes the US postal site produces a crappy output with bad XML code in the output of the rate tables but it was obvious these blokes are not about to keep pace with the failures of the USPS. The comments admitted their coding effort was pretty much just a hack. The USPS has been changing their whole mail rate structure. I don’t need a team like that. I do need dependable store software.

So I am back to X-Cart published by the Russians. Thanks to my customers who I hope stuck with me the last week.

In my last post I explained how I updated my The Hobbyist’s Machine Store website using WordPress and a plug in store software call WP e Commerce.
