Paragon E-12T<\/p><\/div>\n

This is a new addition to my workshop. It is a high temperature (2250 degrees) kiln that I intend to put to a lot of good use. It’s a Paragon E-12T<\/a> with a rather fancy programmable controller for precision heat control.<\/p>\n

My main intention is to use it for lost wax mold making but with its heat range there are many other arts and crafts application I will be trying. It’s not big enough for serious (large) pottery and that kind of kiln work but it will do small items of any type. I guess that could be called serious \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

It will also melt glass. Not to the point of what a glass blower would need but it will melt it into a puddle and into molds. So there is a wide creative area for me to explore in the world high temperature art.<\/p>\n

Some people think because it is electric, a kiln is expensive to operate. That’s not true. It’s easy to run the numbers. Of course cost depends on the size, but it also depends on the duty cycle. Running this kiln for 12 hours at a (typical) 50% duty cycle will cost less than $1.50. So it is not free but that’s far less than say a can of spray paint. The electrical cost is chump change to the entire cost of the project.<\/p>\n
