This one is the KautzCraft site. My shared server ISP (Ixwebhosting.com) has been causing me frustration by blocking my IP address 18 plus hours while I was accessing my web site files because I was doing too much backing up of those files via FTP.

I understand the issues with managing a fairly overloaded shared server with dozens of other user sites. I have more than a dozen of my own. So my head has wandered into the cloud once again. Now I have two of their smallest servers running two of my websites. The first cloud system was my ecommerce site, Ramblin’ Dan’s Store. I moved it there for the exact same reason.

Getting a site running in the cloud is far more complex than using a shared server ISP who usually does all the system configuration. In the cloud it is a start from scratch spin up. Choose the computer hardware then it is the user’s choice of every bit of software from the Operating System up. You pay for what you choose and can turn it off anytime you desire.

I love the experience. That’s because it all works as advertised. It is fantastically scalable to as much computer power anyone would need. The big systems are hugely expensive as they should be but then I can be the fly on the wall just biting off what I need at a price that is very reasonable.

I picked AWS. I don’t know if it is the best service, but it is a good one. I had to start somewhere. AWS offers a free year of their smaller systems. Just right for what I do. After the free ride, the cost is still low. I don’t require a massive computer system for running a store and a small blog.

I think I am done building computer systems for now. I am anxious to get back to some wax carving and fancy metal wood work. You know, making tangible items I can touch and feel.

I just put a new website in the AWS (Amazon Web Service) cloud.
