When first installed about 6 months ago, everything seemed to be working just fine. I filter all my many email accounts through pobox.com which has a great implementation of IMAP/SMTP and also a wonderful email spam filter.

Then Thunderbird started doing the stumble-bumbling trick, of playing dead for minutes at a time. It would just sit there in a comatose state. It was actually locking up the complete computer. CTL-Alt-Delete was needed to escape. It began happening more and more often.

At first I thought it might be a network issue or something in Ubuntu. However, windows had exactly the same problem. It would do this narcolepsy thing when it wasn’t checking the mailbox. This got very annoying when I realized it wasn’t a passing problem.

I chose Thunderbird as I wanted a common email look between operating system, but Thunderbird was crippling my productivity.

I am back on (NEW) Outlook 2016 on the Office (Win10) computer. It exhibits none of the problem of Thunderbird’s sleeping habits. That proves it was not an issue at pobox.com or the network connection.

I like the operation and look of Thunderbird when it is working, but I cannot live with the constant lockups.

Outlook offers far more service features than I need but it is part of my Office 365 package subscription and I just received the latest update from Office 2013 to Office 2016. I can go with the flow.

Sorry little Thunderbird, I have to set you free from the WIN10 cage, Don’t look so blue… you have always been free.

I’ll keep you on Ubuntu and see if you can get better and stay awake.

Update, Update. 10/12/15: Thunderbird self updated a week or so ago and since then has been working very well on my Linux box with my email service IMAP.
