I used Amazon Web Service (AWS), aka “The Cloud” when I performed the previous software update to KautzCraft. My web ecommerce store, Ramblin’ Dan’s Store. is also hosted on that service provider on a separate “instance” or server.

I used AWS as mostly an educational experience. I am proud to say it was totally successful in operation as well as a learning experience. The RDS web store works great too, when I renew and install the SSL secure access properly. (An “oops” mentioned in a previous post.)

The only issue with AWS is it is a pay-as-you-go and what-you-use system. A very fair system but not too cash efficient for a very small, low volume website like KautzCraft. Cost was in the $10/month bracket.

I have a conventional Internet Service Provider (ISP) where I have about 15 low volume websites (including this one) running on a shared service server. Total cost for all 15 is about $10.00/month. I’ll let you do the math.

So I moved KautzCraft.com/net/org back to my shared service where it was first installed. It is not a copy here, paste there, operation as these Content Management System (CMS) websites are huge and use a separate database server. There are over 5,000 files and a SQL database that have to make the trip. On some of my systems there are 10,000 plus files.

All went well but took about half a day. The performance so far looks no different than when hosted in the cloud. Cost is now ~$0.67 a month. Not too shabby.

KautzCraft website made a flawless move yesterday.
