I spent an entire summer in that wonderful south Texas weather and traveled between Houston and Dallas on a weekly basis. Our contract was with TXDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) to save energy in their traffic signals.<\/p>\n<p>The project was a lot of fun although somewhat repetitious. I managed a subcontractor with between 5 to 7 crews. We changed about 30,000 traffic lights from incandescent bulbs to LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). The savings were about 110 watts\u00a0per signal\u00a0light. Do the math, we are saving energy!<\/p>\n<p>Most of the work was at night but the pedestrian crossing signals (called PEDs) could be done in daylight. I took lots of pictures and captured one of our electricians hard at work within a &#8220;ped&#8221;.
