Too busy messing with the Intel NUC Win10 computer. That changed today.

I energized Sandbox and expected I would have some usual application software updates to perform. Yes, there were quite a few. When the those updates completed, the Ubuntu OS informed me a new LTS (Long Term Support) update was available for the Ubuntu OS itself. A move from the 16.xx LTS to a new 18.xx LTS series (18.04 LTS to be exact.)

I always want to run the latest and greatest, so performing the OS update was a no-brain-er. It took several hours to complete. Now Sandbox is totally current and the new OS apparently operating just fine.

Everything I have tested so far is compatible with the 18.04 LTS.

Not sure exactly how I will be using this new Linux. I use the one Terabyte drive in Sandbox for file backup. That will definitely be a continuing use. I am considering returning to running the Cartesian 3D printer using Linux and a USB connection. The memory Micro SD card is very difficult to access and remove on the Cartesian printer. I know I can get good smooth (no pause) prints from the Linux USB feed.

I think that is true… Ha! Well, I will test it again to be sure… Yup, ran Cura print on USB feed 1.5 hours, no pause, no blobs. Ubuntu Linux rocks!

I am also considering running Sandbox as a test bed for web site development. I can load a MySQL database and an Apache2 web server. It wont be exposed to the Internet, but will provide a local network test platform.

Always something new to keep me entertained…

I haven’t been playing with my Sandbox (Linux) computer for several months.
