A Thinker’s Dam

Brother Jim (up in Flat Rock, NC) sent me some videos of his dry pond. Well, it did have an honest to goodness babbling brook running through the middle. It also had a few inches of mud at the bottom. He tells me he just took 40 truckloads of mud out of that bottom. He called it “cleaning out the pond”. It must have been a mud pond.

Now he is going to build a little dock, fix the overflow pipes and generally tidy up the pond a bit. All this of course cost a bundle of presidents’ pictures.

I remember in science class (yes I remember science class) how a beaver builds a dam, a pond is formed, the pond silts up, it becomes a marsh, the marsh dries up, it becomes a meadow, grass grows, trees grow. Hmm… maybe it was nature class. It generally takes 100’s of years.

Anyway, it seems from brother Jim’s videos if you want to stop the process at the pond level, then you have to pay for mother nature to go away for awhile. Don’t worry brother, you won’t have to do it again for another 100 years!

Enjoy!
