North Central Texas Wildlife

I know most of the city-bread readers of this blog have a different idea what the Dallas Texas wildlife might be all about.  The attached pictures show a considerably different type of wildlife a little farther west in north central Texas,  near a tiny town named Cross Plains.

The pictures were taken on motion detection cameras at feeding stations on a ranch located just several miles south of Cross Plains.  (32° 0’54.31″N,  99°10’43.01″W,  Front Gate)  The ranch is owned by Mike Mazanec,  a coworker who BTW is the person who hired me over fourteen years ago when our company was named CSI.  I visited Mike’s ranch (a full section in size) about two months ago.  I saw these hogs running in the daylight.

These critters can be mean when threatened and have become quite a pest in all the southern states and are rapidly spreading north.  They damage yards and crops with their rooting in the ground.  Google for more information about wild hogs in the USA.

If you are camping on the ground (tents) can you imagine a herd of these 400 pound critters paying you a visit in the middle of the night?  No,  they are not out to eat you,  but they can do serious harm trying to get past you if they feel threatened.  Ha,  just when you were feeling safe about staying out of the water…
