There is a common fear of being exposed to examination and challenge when communicating in a public forum. What you say or write can and will be used against you in the court of public opinion. That’s why I write about my opinion and experience and don’t lay claim that what I make public in my writings is the absolute and only reality. It is the wise person who realizes that every individual has their own sense of reality as they experience it. Your reality is not necessary the same as mine. It is easy to sit and observe as an audience. It is far more risky to get on stage and perform or post in a forum or blog.
Shakespeare wrote in As YOU Like It; All the world’s a stage And all the men and women merely players. To me that is the view of an actor or playwright but not my vision. Why should I even consider it a true fact? Am I to believe the audience is pretending too? Ha! 😆
Stage fright for most people is a real experience. Adrenalin release (flight response) at first makes me want to flee for protection, back to a comfort zone. I still feel a bit of adrenalin when I first speak or teach (or write) in front of a new audience. It is the thrill of the performance.
Like in BASE jumping, the initial adrenalin rush can become addictive. So does writing and publishing, in a much milder experience. This legal chemical addiction (in my opinion) is a big part of why I and others keep repeating the performance.
All it takes is practice. What was once fear becomes excitement then becomes addictive. I want to keep doing more of the same. Becoming bored is when the adrenalin fix no longer occurs and I have to look for the next dealer.
So posting here becomes addictive once the initial stage fright is overcome. Then it is highly enjoyable. I think about the childish chat, “Stick and stones my break my bones, but words (posted here) will never hurt me.” Now, is that reality? 🙁
