This is for you Linux users…
The Spherical Cow, AKA Fedora 18 wasn’t running too good today. It became constipated trying to do a normal software update from the X-Window GUI. It said there were 96 updates waiting and then would just hang. I tried several remedies and reboots but the cure was at the command line. It’s nice to not forget your “roots” so to speak. (That’s a deliberate pun…)
I opened a terminal window and dropped into su super user mode. (Logged in as root) Then “yum update” got the flow going. 186 updates including a new kernel rolled down the window. The GUI was certainly stuck.
Back to the GUI after a reboot and it reports no new updates. I’ll check it in a few days and see if it is working correctly.
