…If you don’t do it every day you are a bum.
The family business had an old sign in the office that said the same thing about selling. Dad put it up when I was a kid. It had a line drawing sketch of the sad clown Emmett Kelly, right in the middle like a wanted poster. Sometimes my memory of that sign drives my need to post on my blogs.
This is a grey scale sketch of EK Jr. But the effect is the same. Both lonely clowns fully exploited the unshaven look of a sad bum.
But I am confused these days. The marketing folks seem to think this look is a sign of extreme masculinity, rather than the sad or lazy bum. To me the heavy shadow beard look always reminds me of this picture (and persona).
I admit that I do wear facial hair from time to time. But not because I want to look like I just swallowed a full bottle of Viagra. Say… maybe THAT’s why all those young babes follow this 67 year old body around?
No chance.
But I can sprout a good beard or a heavy shadow (white) when I want to. It comes in full and dense. I think I have the right gene for growing body hair (but not the head) as I have shaved my face since I was 15.
I can only have pity for the scraggy looking faces that can’t grow a proper beard. These are the faces where you can count every hair at a glance. To me they are wasted effort. They even put them in TV ads, much to my wonder. It just proves good taste or look is a personal opinion.
Hey look! I have just written a post. I am good for this day. Time for a close shave…
