Curse of Sagittarius

I finally found the coffee cup I b-day cupdidn’t know I always wanted. Every one with a December birthday would probably identify with the stated sentiment. It is the curse of Sagittarius. Probably Capricorn too.

I was always told as a child, “Sorry son, we didn’t get you much for your birthday, you’l get the really good stuff on Christmas.  I swear I heard it every year, it is the god awful truth. I just had to live with it and pretend I understood. I learned early that December birthdays are a nuisance or get in the way of other “seasonal” things. I know Jesus never had the issue.

It did help me form one of my life philosophies. “Just because you can explain it to me and I say I understand, it’s not an admission from me that I like it.” Too many people think giving a reason makes everything ok, well it doesn’t.

I have shortened it to, “Just because I say I understand, doesn’t mean I like it.”

“Hey Don, we didn’t get you anything for your birthday because, well Christmas is so close.” “Oh yeah, that’s understandable,” like I haven’t heard it all my life.

I think it did make me stronger and slightly more tolerant of “waiting for the good things” to happen in life.

So my birthdays are always non expectation days, no big deal, not forgotten just put off.  I am now covered on the actual date by a few Facebook comments and the family sends me a text message. We then celebrate on a mutually more convenient date. These days, I just go get what I want anyway. Maybe I should buy this cup? 🙂
