It’s a lousy rainy freezing weather weekend. The workshop is too cold. The churches and most outside activities have shut down here in Dallas this Sunday because of the freezing rain. We are just not equipped in North Texas to handle ice.

So I have been hanging out on my computers. Yes, plural. I have many more than just one. Most are PC type but I also have the first edition MAC mini. I am using it now. I also still have the very first all in one MAC. That is another story.
The hot news is that MS (MicroSoft) is about to launch its new OS (Operating System) Vista.
I have the time for reading a lot of web pages (like this blog, but commercial) that permit feedback replies. I find it quite amusing reading the slew of tecno-idiots and their urination contests about which OS is “better”. What a joke. I won’t go there. This is far from a perfect world but no modern OS is a pile of… These scathing flames even involve Linux, BSD, Solaris in which I am also current.
I have the hottest (fastest) 64 bit PC I could afford to build. It runs MS XP Pro and is still about 3x overkill for the Vista OS when it arrives. All my expensive software (mostly Abobe) was purchased for this PC. This is just to tell you I am vested heavily with MS, whatever their new OS will do. I also have no immediate need to upgrade. I run and own computers for the applications they can run. I.E. I have not seen any OS X application that can run a program like MACH3 in my workshop.
I will eventually move to Vista as that is the only path MS will take me. My employer just recently adopted and approved XP only becaue MS stopped shipping 2003. So they are several years down the road for Vista.
Which OS do I really like? The answer is OS X. Yep, the baby MAC Mini is my favorite. This tiny computer can’t do anything heavy duty like my “BIG” computers. Yet, it contains the most comfortable OS. I would buy a MAC Pro tomorrow if I could.
Would I “die” for either system. Naw! Once you are in an application it doesn’t matter what OS you are running. But like they say, “The MAC just works…” but you have to be willing to pay a premium for an OS and software that totally fits the hardware. The PC has more options.
Go take your pick and enjoy.
Sure hope the freezing rain goes away soon…
