Wide Entertainment

I am not a big time TV watcher. Too much time can be lost in front of the “tube”.  Guess what. They are not “tubes” any more. Well, the new ones are not.

Gloria and I just purchased a new HD wide screen, 46 inch! No tube. The brand is Samsung, same brand as the 24 inch monitor I use on the home office computer. It is a LCD version and can run at the highest resolution of 1040p. I have to run around the house barefoot now as it has knocked my socks off!

I won’t get into a debate about what screen is best as far as technology. They are all pretty darn good today and there is a bunch of hokum about technology superiority. Most of that is generated by early versions of the technology that is no longer valid. No, you never could put more gas into the plasma screens. My advice, pick out what you like and go with it.

I ordered mine form Amazon.com. Big purchase you say? Yes, but I bought my equally expensive Powermatic 2000 table saw from them too. Both high ticket items arrived and put in place by the driver in perfect condition. Both were three to four C notes cheaper than the name brands at the local bricks and mortar, no sales tax, and FREE shipping. That is a huge savings of over 20 percent.

More advise, only follow this route if you know exactly what you want and you are only buying on price. It may be well worth the 20% to deal local if the help and support is worth the premium. In a lot of purchases, it is. You decide.

My local cable is running 1040i which if you don’t know what that means you will when you go to buy one of these. The Discovery channel is sent in that format. WOW! I may be watching more TV now, maybe buying some movies on Blue-ray disk. Dang! I might get hooked on visual (wide) entertainment…
