The Simpson’s

Sorry not the TV cartoon Simpson’s. The Simpson’s I actually know, make the best electrical test instruments. The pictures below are of the Simpson 261 VOM (Voltage Ohm Milliammeter) and it measures high current too. This is what is know as an analog meter because it has a real meter movement with a needle.

There is actually a long series of the Simpson 260 series of meters. They are still made today and are not cheap. Neither was this one. I used my first one while in the Navy back in 1967 or so. I am sure the 260 model series is much older than that. I bought this one probably around 1970. Click HERE for pictures of another 261 meter like mine.

My meter has been repaired and calibrated many times while I was activly working with it as a serviceman in the HVAC business. You can see all the service stickers where the 1.5 volt D cell is clips in.

The batteries by the way are only used for reading resistance in dead circuits. if you forget the power is on, you send the meter in for repair… so I am told.

The meter has served me well with my service and installation work as well as electronic and ham radio activity’s. I just thought I’d show off my over 40 year old test instrument. Still working after all these years. Me too.
