I can hardly believe it is November already. October was a busy month with Steve and Danielle’s marriage. Father of the groom has little to do, but with so much activity surrounding the event, time moves quickly. The older I get the faster the time moves anyway. I am running out of time to do things!
I have been spending a little of the free time I have looking into part time business opportunities. That is the reason for my earlier blurb on the LASER engravers and cutters. The folks making those things are really doing the slick marketing to push over priced machines into buyers’ hands. A lot of effort spent on cool things they will output but I see no way to make “real” money just having one. It’s like any business, owning the correct tools don’t make you an engine mechanic.
I have a lot of machine tools and I know how to use them. I have to laugh (or maybe just shake my head) when I see the Smithy ads saying, “$1000’s saved because I have a Smithy” as if simply owning one was all that was required. It’s even guaranteed to pay for itself! It seems to me there is a lot of the story missing.
Actually, I am trying to find a way to make my hobby tools and skills provide a return on the investment. The small machine tools I have are not a large investment so they don’t have to earn too much. For some reason though, I don’t have the neighbors lining up outside my house waiting for me to make things for them. Maybe I have the wrong brand name tools… This is a rather yuppie neighborhood.
I’ll keep plugging away
Hi Dad! I know the “neighbors lining up” comment was tongue-in-cheek, but y’know the way to make those folks line up for what you’ve got: ADVERTISING! 😉
Yep, That’s the point.
It doesn’t just happen. You have to know the market and target the advertising to the buyers.
People can buy any watch to tell the time. You have to make them want to buy a Fossil watch.
