Here is something different. I have a pin oak tree in my front yard that has been raised from an acorn. This is a cluster of acorns on that tree that have some kind of disease. My son Steven and I were looking at several clusters like this so he took this picture. Nice shot Steve.
He had just come off the roof of my house and I had given him his mom’s camera to take pictures of any lighting damage. None was found. Back safely on terra firma, I showed him these acorns. I thought maybe an insect was inside causing the strange growth, We cut one open and there is nothing like a bug that could be seen.
I neighbor later told me it is a disease the acorns get, but that it wasn’t serious to the tree. I’ll have to do more research to know exactly what is going on.
In any case I thought they were quite colorful and interesting at which to look.
Looks like the crop of Jawbreakers came in good this year!
After a bit o’ Googling, it looks like your Pin Oak may have Gall Wasps.

Yeah Shel,
I was thinking the same thing. That is why we cut one open looking for the grub. Then I did my googling too. – Dadio
