There was an interesting call at the house last night. Gloria took the call and it had me seriously wondering what was going on. A fellow had called saying he bought a “little red school house” painting on EBay created by Dan Kautz.
He was probing Gloria for information about the artist which got me seriously concerned. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately) such activity is highly suspicious to me and I refused to talk to him without further proof of legitimacy.
Gloria told him to call back after he received the painting. I searched Ebay after he got off the line and could not find the sale. I did a Google search and DID find the transaction. Here is a PDF of the sale. Scroll down PDF to see a larger picture.
This is my grandfather, Dan Sr. and I am Dan III. Looks like his art lives on well past his passing, even though not fetching a fortune. 🙂 Gloria and I do remember seeing this painting in his studio.
Dan, I was having dinner a a friend’s house in 1976 and admired a painting she had on her wall. She said it was by a local artist and we both said, Dan Kautz at the same time. She was astonished I knew the artist and I was astonished she had the good taste to buy one of his paintings.
A bank or some financial institute in California bought 40 or so of his paintings to give as bonuses for opening some special accounts or other in the 70’s. His paintings are now all over the US,
Hey Cuz!
That’s great info! Thanks for adding the comment and come back anytime. I think you more than knew grampa… 😉
My mission and I think yours (from past discussions) is to leave something as a legacy if we can. It is so good to think and know his art lives on…
