Amateur Radio

dan_w5ehs

This is a subject I haven’t discussed in Ramblin’ Dan. I have been an amateur radio operator for almost 40 years. I was first licensed as a Novice in 1969. I was permitted to operate a 75 watt (input) crystal controlled transmitter, Morse radio code only. My call was WN8EHS. I am now W5EHS.

Just the year before I became a “ham”, I had come off active duty in the Navy and married my sweetheart Gloria. The twins were still a few years away (1972). I had wanted to be a ham from the time I was ten years old. This was at last the right time to do so.

John Petrek, W8BNO, a Chief ET at the Navy Reserve gave me the Novice test at the reserve center. He was with me a few weeks later as I made my first contact with K2UCE, a woman operator on the east coast. What a great time! More info is here on my personal web pages.

I will touch on this subject again from time to time. I operate as W5EHS from here in Frisco, Texas. Any other hams follow my ramblings?
