Seems Logi-cal

Dongle

I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse on the NUC computer. I installed the tiny USB dongle on the backside of the NUC case. All seemed to be working well but occasionally I could see the mouse and even the keyboard would act a bit wonkey. I think wonkey is the official term.

The mouse pointer would hop, skip and jump. I was doing PhotoShop editing and it was driving me crazy. I thought perhaps the mouse and keyboard need a fresh charge.

I put them both on charge then started to do a bit of research. I discovered there is a known problem with Logitech […] Continue reading » Seems Logi-cal

NUC / GTI Performance Update

My tiny but high performance Intel NUC has been performing very well since the fan (blower) transplant. It is everything I need for the job I ask it to do.

There is no worse feeling when a new and expensive item suddenly goes sour. The fan is probably one of the least expensive components in the computer. It was an easy fix. Probably a low bid component selection by Intel.

It’s that sort of thinking that tarnishes an otherwise good product. The extreme performance space shuttle fails because of a lousy rubber O-ring.   No disaster here…

Intel NUC Fan

Intel NUC

I did some Internet research (Intel NUC fan noise) and it seems like the fan has been a problem for these machines. The noisy fan is not an unusual problem.

There is a three-year warranty on the components, so it can be covered by warranty. Two options it seems. Intel can send a fan and you change it yourself, or in my case (pun intended) since I have one of the “kit” version built up by a vendor, I […] Continue reading » Intel NUC Fan
