Just received two of the Proxxon professional rotary tools (IB/E) last night. One I will use for testing and design a mount for the CNC HB2 machine. The other is inventory for the THMStore.
First impression is WOW! This is one very nice high speed hand tool. It does deserve the title “professional.” This tool is amazingly quite, far less noise than say a well oiled sewing machine. It makes the competition sound like a tornado siren. (No one knows what an air raid siren sounds like these days…)
I’ll put a full report together this weekend. I’ll probably do a video so it can be heard as well as seen. Then I will add a link to this post. ~ Dan’l
Here is a link to the product review vidio. I may do more videos in the future unless there is a lot of negative feedback. HA!
Just click on the picture.

just a suggestion…. when ya make the video include the “other” brand ,so the difference can be heard between the two for comparison and also try clamping the two rotary tools to the work bench and put a test indicator on a 1/8 inch shaft tool for “runout comparison”
good idea ace….thanks! 🙂
Hi Ace,
Looks like you are into a little self praise there! Ha! 🙂
But still good suggestions. It is also very hard to determine the size of these tools without seeing them in action.

nice review dan! those are very quiet tools ,and have very little runout , proxxon look to be somewhat bigger than the dremel . again good job with the review, you ought to be on t.v. 🙂
Yes, The IB/E is a bit bigger than the two Dremel’s I have. Mostly in the length. I think it is a good compromise between the very heavy commercial die grinding tools and a hand holdable micro grinding tool. I think the IB/E is best suited for being locked down in some kind of holder for long run operation. Proxxon makes a number of other hand held rotary tools in smaller sizes. Some of the smallest are run off a DC power pack and can be held like a pen for fine engraving.
BTW, I think the old Dremel is more like 30-40 years old!
I also have several extreamly high speed 200,000 – 300,000 rpm air turbine hand tools. That is another whole story!
TV? Yeah, watch out Norm…
Dear Mr. Dan’l.
I have never owned a rotary hand tool, and I am thinking about getting one. I am wondering what the strengths of a tool like this are? Can you cut through materials like ABS and other heavy plastics? I know a lot of the bits are for “grinding,” but can you use them for boring things out? EG taking out a section of a plastic electrical box without having to cut through to the area you want removed?
Are the Proxxon drill bits all-purpose? Can they go through metal?
Excellent video review. I know Dremel’s are far more common, but they seem very chintzy. The Proxxon looks like a work-horse. And it’s quieter! It really looks like a much higher grade all around…
Keep up the good work, Dan’l!!
Yes, a rotary tool with the proper bit can cut through just about anything. I have had several types going back nearly 50 years. It is just picking the accessory to do the job. Saws, cutoff disks, rotary cutters, grinders, the list is endless. The Proxxon drill bits in the kit are very small and therefore fragile. They will drill steel but not easily hand held. There are many size bits that can be used.
The strengths are low noise, high speed and great build quality.
